Cyberpunk prop design for Virtual Reality V.1
Setting the tone.
A big part of the Stupid Hate story is the helmet Sam Prez builds out of stolen components from his day job as an AI engineer. Much of the story will take place inside the helmet, and plays a huge role in the Cyberpunk Art Direction and visual style of the digital reconstructions in the story.
Because of its importance, I wanted it to look like it could totally be a working device, but still have the appearance of being very DIY and slapped together from scrap parts. (which it actually is!)
The helmet was purchased from a night market here in Taiwan for 500twd (16usd) as it was matte black I thought it’d be easy to spray paint if need be, and the shape seemed easy to work with as opposed to ones that had lines and indentations molded into it.
For the electronic elements I set out to the electronic district here in Taiwan to find parts suitable for the concept I had in mind, I asked every computer store I could find if they had broken motherboards/parts/hard drives to sell me in bulk, most didn’t but a few did, from this I was able to take stuff apart and test what looked best.
If you crack open a 140mm Case fan inside is a circular mini circuit board with a 2-3 wires attached, perfect for the look I wanted. I only had 4 or so, so I ordered 60 more online.
